I believe that healing happens through the body and that so much in our world, from trauma to diet culture to white supremacy, works to disconnect us from our body’s wisdom. Whether as a result of trauma, disordered eating, or grief, depression, and anxiety, most of us have developed some amount of body disconnection or distrust which prevents us from accessing our intuition and whole selves. I support my clients in realizing that their bodies are not the problem, recognizing the events or systems that caused them to distrust their bodies, and reclaiming their innate right to experience their body as their home. I’m committed to developing a safe, accepting, permission-filled space for clients to encounter their individual stories, their longings, and their bodies.
As a therapist, I am rooted in Health at Every Size® a weight inclusive, non-diet, and body trust perspective, and I use a trauma informed approach. My work is also significantly informed by relational psychodynamic therapy, internal family systems, narrative therapy, and attachment theory. I use multiple modalities to provide individualized care to my clients but primarily focus on building a secure and trusting relationship where clients feel safe to explore, process, risk, and heal.
Prior to coming to Self Space, I worked at an eating disorder treatment center and have extensive experience working with adults dealing with eating disorders at the partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP) and outpatient levels of care. I have experience working with complex trauma, dissociative disorders, identity work, major life changes, relational concerns, depression, and anxiety. It has also been my profound honor to walk alongside white clients as they grapple with their privilege and work to divest from white supremacy.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a licensed Clinical Supervisor. I received my Master of Arts in Counseling-Psychology from The Seattle School and my Bachelor of Arts in Social Cultural Anthropology from the University of Arizona. I love spending time with my family of four, watching my kiddos discover the world, and spending as much time in or near water as possible. I very much enjoy putting together puzzles, specifically, Legos and Ikea furniture. Oh, and I love good food!
