FAQ

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

We all get angry, sad and worried at times: the question is how intense and how often, and do those feelings hinder your life. Some of the more overt signs that you may be ready for therapy are excessive worry, feeling hopeless, trauma or abuse, relationship problems, difficult life transitions, or seem to have a run-down immune system or regular headaches and stomachaches.

You may also simply be wanting to grow and feel a bit stuck. Therapy is always a great place to explore your past, present and future.

How do I schedule a session?

To schedule a first session simply go to the Book Now page. From there you can easily select a therapist and choose your preferred date and time for your first session. You can also call us at (206) 414-8918 to schedule over the phone or email connect@selfspaceseattle.com.

Self Space Quality

All of our therapists have first met the rigorous graduate school and state requirements to serve as licensed healthcare professionals. Through ongoing continuing education, training, and experience each therapist has developed unique areas of expertise in order to competently serve particular issues and identities. Although we care deeply about hiring the top technical clinicians in the field to meet the highest standards of care, we also focus on hiring therapists who are incredible people: therapists who know how to nurture safe, curious, compassionate, and genuine relationships. We hire therapists who enjoy being in their own therapy and clearly have found therapy to be meaningful in their own lives. The end result is a talented team of experts who can come alongside you.

How do I choose my therapist?

The data shows that the most significant indicator that therapy will be successful is when you feel a safe alliance with your therapist. Basically, you feel like they “get” you and truly care about you.

We invite you to look through our therapist bios on our website and book directly online with a specific clinician, or feel free to call our office and we will help match you with the skilled therapist who we feel will be most helpful given your presenting problems. You have the option to make specific requests, such as male or female, etc. We want you to make the final choice in who you work with. Meeting your therapist for an initial session is important in determining if this is who you want to work with.

Can I switch therapists?

Certainly! We know that therapy is incredibly vulnerable, and it is vital that you feel safe and like your therapist understands you. Actually, statistics show that no matter what kind of therapy you do, it is most effective if you feel like your therapist really gets you. Please let us know if it feels like you are in the wrong fit and would like to see someone else.

How do you keep my information safe?

Self Space has invested significant resources to ensure all communication and client information are safe and HIPAA compliant. We use an Electronic Health Records system that stores all your health records and personal information securely online. Please feel free to ask more about this if you have specific questions.

How much does a therapy session cost and how do I pay?

Each therapist has a session rate based on their experience and level of licensure. This is clearly marked on the page with their detailed bios. Your credit card will be taken when you schedule a session and this card will be charged automatically at the end of each session. If the cost of therapy is prohibitive for you, check out our sliding scale offerings.

Does Self Space take insurance?

We are Out-of-Network with all insurance companies. We are happy to provide you with a monthly statement (called a Superbill) which you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

To determine if you have Out-of-Network mental health coverage, call your provider and ask the following questions:

  • what are my mental health benefits?

  • what is the coverage amount per therapy session?

  • how many therapy sessions does my plan cover?

  • how much does my insurance pay for an Out-of-Network provider?

  • is approval required from my primary care physician?

What do I do if I am in crisis?

If you are experiencing a crisis call the Crisis Connections Clinic at (206) 461-3222, call 911, or go to the nearest hospital emergency room for assistance.
