Intern Therapist

To me, therapy is a place to embrace the fullness of who you are - especially those parts of you that haven’t felt welcomed or well understood in the past. Whether you’re coming to therapy for the first time or already have a few years under your belt, bringing your story to someone new is incredibly brave. In our work together, we’ll collaborate to uncover parts of you and your story that are hidden, unloved, misunderstood, or in need of encouragement. We’ll listen to your story with fresh and curious ears, hearing together the ways that you’ve been powerful and deeply knowledgeable about yourself all along.

I work with people experiencing life transitions, loneliness and relationship issues, anxiety and depression, chronic illness, and folks navigating queer identities. While I don’t see myself as a “fixer” of problems, I do see myself as a partner in facing them and a witness to the pain, grief, and even joy that they can bring. My style is client-centered, relational, and deeply human. My work with clients is focused on collaboratively constructing a safe-enough space to invite your authentic self into being. At the same time, we’ll hold an awareness of how systemic power structures have shaped both our intra and interpersonal relationships. My hope is that our work together will foster more awareness, authenticity, fluidity, and connection in the areas of your life where you may currently be feeling stuck, rigid, or disconnected.

I work from a psychodynamic relational framework, which means we’ll work together over time to explore how early experiences and past relationships may be affecting your life in the present. We’ll use the relationship that exists between us as a catalyst for identifying old patterns and building more adaptive ways of relating in your life outside of therapy. While it’s my job to help you to become aware of what’s no longer serving you, I also consider you to be the foremost expert in your life and your experiences. Together we’ll hold both the serious and silly things that transpire in session with playfulness and curiosity. I’m a partner with you on your journey to living a fuller and more meaningful life with the increased awareness, acceptance, and understanding that therapy can bring.

I grew up in Eastern Washington, which left me with a fierce love for sagebrush, Top 40 radio, and wandering the foothills of the Cascades by foot or by mountain bike. My path from there to Self Space has meandered through work as a field biologist, bilingual preschool teacher, public health outreach worker, and many other opportunities to ponder the human condition from different angles. Navigating chronic illness in adulthood has allowed me to grow into new and lesser-known parts of myself. Now that I’ve been back in Seattle for a few years, I’m often found cuddling on the couch with my dear aging dog, kayaking (but mostly floating and looking at seals) on Elliot Bay, or exploring the city by way of thrift shops and cozy cafes.
